My debut book Strangers Crossing Paths is a crime thriller. It is a collection of sixteen short stories. Each seems like a standalone but as you keep reading you'll see how the stories are connected.
The characters are from different walks of life: an anonymous writer, a serial killer, a priest, a lawyer, a terminally ill young woman, a ten-year-old boy, a drug lord...how each of these characters influences the lives of the others is what makes the book more interesting. It's just like we think that we control our destiny, yet a stranger crossing our path can alter the events of our lives.
Some interesting facts about this book:
The first two stories were written with the thought to submit for a competition. I wrote the third one and then began creating plots to connect with each other.
My daughter was two years old when I started with this book. And she had an awful sleeping schedule. I often used to wait for her to fall asleep to continue with my writing. So most of the book was written post-midnight with me fighting the urge to sleep!
The entire manuscript was typed on my phone. I only used the laptop to format the document.
I didn't hire an editor (which is evident when you read it) and even didn't do a good job at proofreading. I uploaded the manuscript thrice as each time I would read the book on Kindle, I'd find a typo or even something that I wouldn't have overlooked during my copywriting days. I again blame it on my sleep-derived eyes but no excuse is good enough, right?
The 5-star ratings I received definitely made me joyous. But when an unknown reviewer gave me a 3.5 rating, I knew it was the truth. Was I disappointed? Indeed not! 3.5 for a debut book seems good enough for me.
With the paperback version of Strangers Crossing Paths coming soon, I will finally be the 'woman behind the book'! Those who have read the book or after you read it, please leave a rating on Amazon & Goodreads. And don not forget to share your feedback with me. No matter if it is good or bad, I will appreciate it.
